I bought these for Fall and Winter riding here in the Pacific Northwest, and so far they are keeping me warm in the high 40s to low 60s of early Fall. I will probably want to add layers as the temps get below 40, but they do a good job of insulating as well as shielding from wind chill, so I'll see how low I can take them before needing to layer. They are not waterproof, but they do dry pretty fast. I appreciate the large reflective rectangles on the calves, since I do a fair amount of riding in traffic. I was hesitant to purchase these because they lack a pad, but the sale price was too good and now I'm actually glad for the flexibility that wearing these over padded shorts allows - starting a longer ride in these in the chill of the morning, then shedding them when the temps warm up.
